Clearwell Castle is a wedding venue located in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England. Surrounded by 42 square miles of wilderness and woodland, it offers a picturesque and romantic setting for couples to exchange their vows. The multi-award-winning venue boasts a rich history, dating back to the 15th century and at one point was even a recording studio for bands like Queen and Led Zeppelin! 


From the venue's perfectly manicured gardens to the iconic portcullis, it’s a wedding photographer's dream setting and lends itself well to my stress-free, documentary style of shooting. Clearwell Castle is a sought-after wedding venue that gives couples an unforgettable and magical experience.

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”


The vast majority of couples absolutely dread the thought of rain on their wedding day. And I get it. The idea of wet clothes, grey skies and windswept hair doesn't quite sound like the dreamy, sunset vibes that they had envisioned. But a shower or even a thunderstorm doesn't have to be a negative thing. In fact, I believe if you really embrace the wet stuff, it can actually add an extra layer of fun and magic to your wedding. The legend that is Bob Marley once said “Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.” - that really resonates with me and it's something that I always try to pass on to my clients.

Kim & Charlie's wedding was definitely a wet one, but (as you can see from these photographs) they didn't let a few showers stop them from enjoying their big day. We even did all of the group shots and formals outside! Proper legends.

Good Things take time


I've shot wedding photography and videography at Clearwell Castle on several occasions, but this time was a little more special than before as Charlie and Kim are both old school friends of mine. The crazy thing is; due to me continuously travelling around the country, we hadn't spoken in almost 18 years (which ironically is how long they've been a couple)! They contacted me after a recommendation, so we promptly met up and began arranging plans for their wedding photography and videography. We clicked instantly and it felt like that eighteen year gap had never happened.

The quintessential Wedding Day


I genuinely enjoy every wedding I capture; the emotions, the happy faces and the good vibes are what keep me coming back for more. If you were to ask me what a perfect wedding looks like, I'd say that it looks a lot like Charlie and Kim's. Everyone was buzzing, everyone was smiling, it felt like all the puzzle pieces had finally come together and everyone took a step back to admire the beauty of it all (even the rain!).
